Chapter 65: Good VS Bad

When it was the Homiletic class, we were given a work to extract the significance between Old Testament and New Testament: Isaiah 61:1-6 and Luke 4:16-24. I began to find out an interesting fact. Jesus did not read out the last past of Isaiah 61:2:

“and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,”

At that time, Jewish were brought to Babylon to be slaves. They were ill-treated badly. So, it is not surprising that their heart contained full of vengeance. They wanted to take revenge so badly. Though people in Old Testament did repent and mourn to God, it does not mean “all” Jewish. I believe they even curse the Babylonians, by saying something like “Beware! My God will destroy you one day!”

The Jewish did not remember the good things which our God had done for them. That is why God kept on repeating, “I am your God who brought you out of Egypt.”, “I am the God of your forefathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” However, I truly believe that the Jewish remembered mostly on the hatred of what their enemies had done to them.

I do not understand why Isaiah, the prophet, wrote this sentence “vengeance of our God”. Whether it is of God or of human, this is not my point. I only wanna tell you all one thing: Human remembers “bad” more than “good”.

Why do I say that? Good and bad things, which will you recall more often? Obviously, the answer is “bad things”. After reading this now, I am very sure that some will say, “No. I am not like that.”

Do not claim yourself to be holy.
Gossip and praise, which do you talk more?
Sorrow and Joy, which do you share more?
Rebuke and compliment, which do you recall more?
Love and hatred, which is harder for you to put down?
Your fav star and God, which is easier to remember?

I can ensure that you are on the “bad” side.

Our Lord, Jesus Christ, did not read that sentence “vengeance of our God”. I truly believe that He wanted us to learn to let go of our bad memory, and reconcile our enemies. Instead of “vengeance”, he teaches us to love and forgive. That is why many people are changed in the name of Jesus Christ.

Chapter 46: Good Friday

Today, I went to Pastor Soo Jean’s cellgroup.

I found that it was different today. We celebrated Good Friday in the cellgroup. Indeed, I really enjoyed very much.

There are Pastor Soo Jean, Jenny, Michelle, Brian, Sean and others. I had lots of laughter at that night. It’s been a while that I did not laugh for a long time. Jenny and Michelle really “sayang” me in the cellgroup. I felt very pampered. Ha ha… Thanks them very much. Like two sisters looking after a brother though I am older than them...

Why are we celebrating Good Friday?

Surely it reflected about how Jesus died on the cross on us. Indeed, He felt the pain and sorrow. He was rejected and despised by others. He was lonely even a time when God was not with Him when He cried out. From this Good Friday, I certainly know that Jesus really understands my problems. To think carefully, my life sucks pretty much. Yet Jesus is here with me.

Good Friday, it’s a wonderful day to reflect how my Savior bled for me; how He forgives my sins; how He loves me.

Wonderful Jesus Christ.

John 11:25
"Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;"

Jesus is already risen; no longer on the cross; NOW sitting at the right hand of the Father.

Chapter 34: F2 Telematch

We had a F2 telematch for the youth last Saturday (21 March 2009). It was the first time which the English and the Chinese youth combined together in ASC.


That was really an enjoyable time together. Fellowship is always a good thing for all the people especially Christians. If we were to discuss about healthy fellowship, that is always to do with our God, Jesus Christ. When normally great fellowship happens, we will only find happiness, joy and peace. I love to see the youths’ face expressions. I found the word “joy” is applied on that day. On that day, we had 5 games altogether: Tug-of-War, WWE, One legged catcher, Dodge ball and Water War.

As you all know from Chapter 24: Reading Week, I was one of them who set up the games for the F2 Telematch. Even though I was very tired, I actually enjoyed the whole event. As long as I can see their real smile, it is worth it after all. As long as I could see the youths were enjoying the games, it filled my whole heart with joy. I really hope they can enjoy as much as possible because I really love them.
